Un italiano vero

Another lazy day, I'm slowly adjusting to a new way of life. Sitting in the shade, reading Vogue Italia, taking care of myself.

I hear my aunt talking to dad on the phone, she's upset. She talks to him in a 200 mph Italian, gesturing with her entire body. I pretend not to listen but I already know what they are saying, I've heard it all before. Dad is not a "real" Italian since he gave up and moved to America. He should never have abandoned such a big part of his family, and for something so cheap and superficial!

The only thing I can't figure out is if my aunt really wanted to go too, if she feels left behind or just let down. The way she talks about California and Los Angeles - contemptuously - doesn't quite cover the little traces of envy in her voice.

  4. Oh dear, angry relatives can be scary. Hope things sort themselves out.

Please tell me Italian Vogue has decent models, something to aspire to. Our Vogue models (South Africa) are all big breasted, wide hipped, muscular girls with back fat. Most of them just look like hookers! Nasty!

I love your itty bitty tootsies! Cute red nails! <3. XXX.

  5. Cinnamon: This issue of Vogue Italia is the "Real Women" issue, featuring curvy models. Irony...

  7. I know this kind of awkward family dramas. My mom went to germany from Cameroon (Africa) and though they always pretend as if they were super proud of us (don't really fet why anyways) I often see that little bit of jealousness, which is quite sad, since Cameroon is such a beautiful country...

I love your pictures and the blog in general :)

  10. Hmmm...I can understand your aunt a little. For us Italians family is very important, so knowing that his brother chose to leave her and the whole family is incredible to her. I don't agree whith her saying he's not un vero italiano though...in my opinion you can be Italian but live in another country.

  21. We want what we don't have. Some people dream of visiting italy, of losing themselves in the romanticism of the art, history, everything. Others dreams of California and it's amazing beaches, of the constant summer haze and everything else.

It's the excitement of tasting something new. It's the thrill and the adrenaline. It's wonderful. Can't wait to read more of you. Lovely post.
